Macayo's Mexican Kitchen
No trip to Arizona for Spring Training is complete without enjoying the best tasting Mexican food around. Macayo's Mexican Kitchen is a Valley of the Sun tradition, serving delicious chimichangas, tacos and enchiladas in town since 1946. Before or after the Rangers game, fans can visit any either of our Northwest Valley locations in Surprise at Bell Rd & Reems Rd. or at 59 th Ave & Bell Rd. in Glendale.  www.macayo.com

Second Deck is Made For the Shade
If you need a break for the sun, head for the second deck-all shade, plus best view of the field below.

Upper Dugout Seats Worth the Price of Admission
The Upper Dugout seats in Surprise are some of the best non-premium seats that fans at a Cactus League ballpark can buy. Three Upper Dugout sections apiece are on each side of the second-story press box and they overhang the lower level, which puts them closer to the playing field than normal upper level seats are, and that design makes you feel like you’re hovering above the field. Even better, all seven rows in each of the six sections (201-206) are covered by a roof, so you’ll have it made in the shade at a reasonable-by-modern-day-standards price, which is $20 in 2010.

Hotel options in Surprise
Hotel options in Surprise remain limited and many of the rooms are taken up by Rangers or Royals officials or by minor leaguers. In the past three years, however, a Holiday Inn Express and a Residence Inn by Marriott have opened within walking distance of the Rangers/Royals facility. Both are new, clean and extremely convenient. There is also a Hampton Inn in Surprise that has opened within the last five years. The Windmill Inn and Suites is a reliable older hotel. There are also economy options such as the Days Inn and Comfort Inn and Suites.

Quintessential Spring Training Dining Experience in Arizona
For me, the quintessential spring training dining experience in Arizona is to be had at Don & Charlies, a Scottsdale steak, ribs and comfort food spot in Scottsdale. It's owned by Lettuce Entertain You Group from Chicago and run by Chicagoan Don Carson, who works the room and knows EVERYBODY in baseball. The restaurant is covered in baseball memorabilia and is a regular stop for players and officials who train on the East Side of the valley. You may not run into any Rangers there, but chances are you will spot some player, coach or manager there. And you will have a fine meal, especially if you like Chicago-style ribs

Duffy brings memories into South Side start
Royals left-hander Danny Duffy, who will start the second game of the three-game series with the White Sox on Tuesday night -- after Chicago steamrolled to a win in the opener -- has had both good and bad experiences at what is now called Guaranteed Rate Field.

Soler right hitter to help jolt Royals' offense
Ned Yost has managed the Royals for eight seasons and never been blessed with a deep stable of sluggers. He knows this drill.

Cold bats likely putting strain on Royals' arms
Before long, a breaking point could come for a Royals pitching staff that has been lights-out lately but has little to show for it because of an anemic offense. The Royals may be reaching that point after a 12-1 loss at the hands of the White Sox on Monday night. It was the eighth straight game the Royals have scored two runs or fewer -- a franchise record.

Vargas, bullpen unable to contain White Sox
Almost everybody for the White Sox hit and Miguel Gonzalez once again turned in a stellar mound effort, as Chicago cruised to a 12-1 victory over the Royals on Monday night at Guaranteed Rate Field in the three-game series opener.
